SeedDesign actions for the future2024
The 2024 edition of the Seed Festival, Design actions for the future, broadens its field of investigation to the ability of design to work on the balances and imbalances that mark our times. The way to give depth to the theme was to broaden the fields of design explored, not limiting it to the reflections of architects and town planners, but discussing it with philosophers, geographers, journalists, communication designers, activists, explorers, in short, giving strength to thought as the sole motor for marching towards a possible future.
As in previous years, Bcpt design the visual identity of the festival, the design of the communication tools, the exhibit design of the related exhibitions, and the set-up and direction of the theatre screens. Last but not least, we were also part of the programme curatorship project and speaker selection.
The 21st century is characterised by widening social, economic, ecological, and technological imbalances that deepen inequalities and geographical divides and by widespread political instability that undermines the resilience of State organisations and government frameworks.
This state of uncertainty, which shapes the organisation of cities and, more generally, the forms of living, evokes balance as a value and a perspective. The word “balance” denotes a dynamic and relational condition that can never be achieved once and for all (hence the plural balances) and must be sought by considering the reality in which we live as a complex system. Engaging with complexity means addressing emerging phenomena, exploring their limits and possibilities, and attempting to reconcile at times conflicting needs and interests.
